Cape Verde Islands

Sal, Cape Verde weather information

Discovered and colonized by Portuguese explorers in the 15th Century.

The archipelago of Cape Verde is made up of ten islands and 8 volcanic islets, situated 450 km off the West African coast in the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1975 the islands achieved independence from Portugal. Cape Verde is now recognized as a politically stable country. The Government actively encourages private foreign investment, and has introduced legislation to support this. Tourism is arguably the main stream of income so has been targeted by the government in its strategic economic development.

Cape Verdians are a peaceful, happy nation, renown for their hospitality and love of music. Whilst Portuguese and English is widely spoken the national language is Creole. The local currency is CV Escudos but Euros are accepted across the CV islands.

Development of the islands especially Sal has been lead by the Italians, recent attention has attracted increased investment and developers to the islands and opened up this market to Spanish, English, Irish and Portuguese developers, there is also a strong possibility of a highly regarded Dubai Investment Group becoming involved in developments on the islands.

Whilst Mediterranean menus are available at most restaurants and hotels make sure you sample the delicious Creole cuisine, especially the fresh seafood.

Before travelling to Cape Verde please check with your local medical centre for an update on any injections needed.
